Can You Pay DoorDash with Cash? Tips? PayPal? Cash App?

The popular DoorDash food delivery service is available in over 7,000 cities across the United States and Canada. It has over 20 million customers and partners with over 344 restaurants near you.

It’s convenient to get your favorite foods delivered to your doorstep. Surprisingly, around 10% of consumers only use cash to pay for goods and services. As a result, you may wonder if you can pay DoorDash with cash for your food delivery.

Does DoorDash Take Cash?

Yes, DoorDash takes cash in select cities. The food delivery service temporarily suspended cash on delivery during COVID. Before the pandemic, DoorDash allowed customers to pay for food delivery orders with cash at most places.

Customers need to have an alternative payment method ready if DoorDash is temporarily not accepting cash. For example, you can pay for food on DoorDash with PayPal, credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and DoorDash gift cards.

How to Pay with Cash on DoorDash?

While most food delivery customers pay with a credit or debit card, some may prefer to pay with cash.

Steps to pay DoorDash with cash:

  1. When placing your order, select the “cash” option as your payment method.
  2. When your food arrives, meet the driver at the door and hand them the exact amount of cash for your order. Don’t forget to tip your DoorDash driver at least 20% for delivering your food. Although Doordash drivers can’t rate customers, your area likely has the same drivers, and they’ll remember if you’re a good tipper.
  3. Once the driver has received the payment, they will mark the order as “paid” in the app, and you’re set!

Contact the customer service team for assistance if you have further questions about ways to pay your driver for your food.

Paying Cash For DoorDash Tips

There are a few things to keep in mind if you plan on paying for your DoorDash order with cash.

Exact Change

Paying the food delivery driver with exact change will save time and headaches. Most drivers have more than $20 in change. If you don’t have small bills, you may have to round up and be a big tipper to get your food.

Since we’re in a change shortage, see our guide on finding free coin machines nearby for gift cards.

Tip DoorDash Driver

Tipping on DoorDash is optional but encouraged. After all, your Dasher is working hard to bring you your food fast! We recommend paying your food driver 20% of your total order cost if you’re happy with the service.

You can choose to tip in cash or add a tip when rating your Dasher in the app once the food arrives. In addition, the DoorDash driver can see your gratuity before the food is delivered. So, extra big tips can go a long way!

Remember, 100% of tips go to Dashers. DoorDash does not steal or keep a portion of the tips.

Alternative Payment Methods

The food delivery company accepts several forms of payment if you don’t have cash or don’t want to withdraw cash from an ATM

DoorDash accepts the following types of payments for food delivery:

  • Credit and Debit Cards

However, there are some drawbacks to using credit and debit cards. For example, you may be responsible for unauthorized charges if your credit card is stolen, lost, or hacked. Nevertheless, they’re still the most popular way to pay for food delivery despite the potential problems.

Apple Pay and Google Pay

DoorDash accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay for convenience, ease of use, and security. In addition, it’s beneficial to accept contactless payments since there were over 227 million Apple Pay users and 100 million Google Pay users at the end of 2018.

Google Pay and Apple Pay are more secure than using a credit or debit card because they use tokenization. Your actual credit or debit card number is not stored on your DoorDash app device.

Instead, a unique token is generated to make purchases or pay for services. Your credit card or debit card information is not compromised if your mobile device is lost or stolen.

Select Apple Pay at the DoorDash checkout to pay for your food. Although it’s an option, add your Dasher tip if you don’t have the cash to tip your driver.

When using DoorDash.com, click on the payment method to see available payment options. You can use add new forms of payment or change the default to PayPal, credit card, debit card, Cash App debit card, or a DoorDash gift card.
