Meal Maker Challenge: Hamburger Steaks & Mash Potatoes

August 21, 2010

Who doesn’t just LOVE some good ole down south home cooking? This meal was made per hubby’s request so you know yours will love it too!  It’s a hit with the kids because, hello essentially it’s a hamburger! And tell me who doesn’t eat mash potatoes? Especially home made ones?

There are a few different ways to purchase this meal at HEB this week and depending on which meat you choose will determine the amount of time it takes to prepare.  Keep in mind I made the potatoes from scratch but if you are pressed for time you can most certainly sub in instant or store bought pre-made (deli-section).

If you have the time:
Ground Chuck 80/20 -$2.37/lb

For the quick cook:
HEB fully cooked Burgers – Get Kraft American Singles FREE (You’re more than likely going to need this for you lunches any way.)

5# bag of Gold Potatoes – $1.50 (unadvertised sale)
I used half the bag for a family of 4. If you split it like this you are getting  each meal serving for $0.75! ($0.19/person for 2 meals!)

HEB Brown Gravy Packets – $0.36 each
I used 2.
